At some point in your journey, you’ll realize that you have far more power than you give yourself credit for. If you take a moment to reflect, you may find that there have been many times in your life when you orchestrated your own suffering. Often, this was in the pursuit of something, like validation, obligation, or plain old lack of discipline.
This is something I am coming to terms with. It’s funny how something as simple as counting your calories can illuminate this. We say we want to be fit, yet we overeat and never work out. We say we want to save, but we find ourselves purchasing hundreds of dollars’ worth of clothes, as if the thousands we’ve already spent weren’t enough. We have one night of excessive drinking, feel horrible, claim we’ll never drink again, and then end up doing it all over again. I am super guilty of all of this.
You see, no one is making these petty decisions but you. You are your final obstacle to overcome. Personally, I don’t have enemies or rivals. I have distanced myself from anyone who treated me less than I deserve. However, in the end, my biggest rival is me. I am the one who chooses to do the things that create a deficit in my life.
I think about my entry titled “The True Test of Desire.” It encourages the reader to question what they truly desire. What in life gives you that insatiable drive to get things done? How do you find and maintain your flow? How do you stay in the zone? The answer is that you don’t. Life is cyclical, and events are seasonal. Especially for us women, we operate on a cycle that impacts everything from our energy levels to our emotions. Instead, when you do feel the drive to pursue what you want, take it all the way. When you don’t have it, rest and reflect. I am a huge fan of working in spurts, getting a lot done, and then resting. I learned more about Human Design, which encourages my archetype to do just that, and it works for me.
In terms of doing things that negatively impact our goals, awareness is key. Being aware that YOU are the final boss to defeat can spark a certain level of resistance. It’s so easy to blame others, but for the things within our control, we need to own up. Don’t say you didn’t have enough time, because you do. Don’t say you forgot, because you didn’t. You simply didn’t want to, and that is okay. Maybe it just wasn’t the right season. However, once again, take accountability.
Awareness and clarity can do wonders for us. Most of us don’t know what we want, and for the things we do want, we often don’t think we deserve them. Keep reading this blog, keep working on your self-concept, and you will achieve your TRUE desires. You are the final boss to defeat, and you’ve got this!
How to Overcome Self-Sabotage
The spirit of self-sabotage often lurks in the shadows of our minds, whispering doubts and fears that can derail our progress. It manifests as a powerful force, convincing us that we don’t deserve success or happiness, leading to patterns of behavior that undermine our goals. This internal critic can take many forms—procrastination, negative self-talk, or unhealthy habits—that may feel comforting in the moment but ultimately keep us stuck. Recognizing this spirit is crucial; it allows us to confront the limiting beliefs that fuel our self-sabotage and choose a path of growth and self-compassion instead. By embracing awareness and challenging these destructive patterns, we can transform self-sabotage into a catalyst for change, paving the way for a more fulfilling and authentic life. Remember, you are your final obstacle to overcome, and acknowledging this spirit is the first step toward reclaiming your power.
